Appreciating Nature

Isn’t that view just awesome, as in full of awe? How magnificent and splendid!
When I was 14, I saw that view with trepidition. It’s a view of Maracas Beach in Trinidad, my homeland. I went there on a hike with my girl guide troop. On the way up, I was on all fours. I’m talking hands and knees people! So petrified and preoccupied with not stumbling that I missed all the beautiful foliage in the process. When we got to the top and saw the wonderful view, all I could think was, “Dammit! We have to climb back down.” I kept thinking that I could just roll all the way down into that water, and I couldn’t swim!
How many times in your own life have you completely missed the view because you were preoccupied with fear from the past or of the future? In nature, the seasons change effortlessly, ushering the next season with grace. The crisp fall air and vibrant leaves give way to dormant winter. Spring gently wakes winter and provides scented rains for the bright, bold summer. And summer cools gradually for fall.
From the sprawling oak to the soaring eagle, nature provides shelter, solace, and inspiration. Ants busy themselves with their daily task while they aerate the soil that produces the trees that bear leaves for the ants food. No wonder the ant goes about being what it is completely. All around nature teaches us to be who we truly are, to express fully our Divinity. Today I give thanks for all that nature shows me by being and I give thanks for Being.
