Tell Me About Yourself: Guilty Pleasures

I’ve been so overwhelmed with presidential duties at church, writing and publishing serious posts, working my day job, and trying to sell my house that I feel like I’ve forgotten how to have plain old fun.

What? Fun and spirituality together? Why yes! Spirituality doesn’t have to be all pious and pontificating. It is the activity of expressing Spirit. Sometimes that doesn’t involve sitting and meditating. Gasp! Sometimes it’s enjoying some of life’s guilty pleasures.

My number one guilty pleasure is chick lit. Romantic fiction that’s written in the girl is unhappy with life, girl wants boy, girl finds herself, girl gets boy style. I love it!

So, let’s take a break today from some of the more serious forms of spirituality and talk about some of the things that warm your heart, but that you might not think fall under the “personal development” umbrella.

I’ll give you another one: anything Beyonce :-)

What are your guilty pleasures?

August Review

In August, my wonderful readers left some great comments.

  • Mark introduced me to the concept of scientific prayer, “deeply contemplating one or more characteristics of God,” in his response to the question, “What is Meditation?
  • “For any practice to develop, you need a strong reason to pursue it. Meditation is no different.” So says Vishal, on how to make meditation stick.
  • Lyman reminded us that “as long as you are attempting to move toward your goal, you *are* doing it [meditating] right.”
  • Al shared that surrendering means “not letting a situation take control of me.”
  • In response to the question, what would life be like if you completely removed your veil, Lorraine said, “I would see through the “eyes” of Source as unconditional love.”

I devoured the archives of My Secret Spiritual Dance, a great blog on tantra and merging sexuality and spirituality. From there I met Darcy who reviews spiritual blogs (wish I thought of it). Her site is a great resource if you’re looking for an online spiritual community.

Balanced Life Center was featured on the growing list of outstanding blogs authored by women, and the definitive list of Personal Development sites. I was also featured on Steve Aitchison’s Change Your Thoughts as a Star Blogger. I’m really flattered guys :-)

Here’s to a Superb September!
