Do You Have A Card?

No, not a business card, a passion card. I can hear you all in the blogoshpere now. “She’s finally lost it.” Stick with me a bit.
I attended a leadership workshop on Friday night and all day Saturday by Gary Simmons, the author of The I of the Storm. Early on in the Friday night session, the speaker had us complete an insightful exercise. First, he asked us to list 7 role models, alive or dead, real or imagined. Then he had us write down 3 characteristics that we admired in each role model. So your list would look something like this:
Superman: Strong, Courageous, Compassionate
Buddha: Compassionate, Spiritual, Centered
Aunt Sue: Loving, Caring, Compassionate
And so on. Finally he had us pick seven of the attributes that we most admired out of the 21. We wrote those characteristics on a note card with the heading, I Came Here To Be…
After the exercise we walked around the room asking each other who we came here to be. I thought it was a nifty way of finding your purpose.
Even though this method is not about finding your strengths, it can still be done in 20 minutes or less. The intriguing thing about this definition of purpose is that you can be that person regardless of your situation. It’s not a destination. It’s a way of being on life’s journey.
Now here’s where the Universe is nodding to me. Monday, I open up Bloglines to find a post by Kammie on purpose.
“we?€™re so focused on getting there, that we completely miss that WE are here and here is where the work is. Each and everyday we are afforded opportunities to show up and BE who we are. Each day is another new beginning to become the person we were born to be.”
Talk about serendipity! So my question for you is, “Are you on your card today?”

Nneka~
Thanks so much for the link-love. I’m glad you enjoyed the article. I am constantly challenging myself to be of service each and everyday.
Most days it’s the little things I do that I feel make BIG changes in the world. Holding the door for someone, smiling at the checker who just packed up my groceries, being pleasant to the teller after waiting in line at the bank.
I feel once we begin with the little things, the bigger things WILL begin to reveal themselves to us. And our purpose becomes more clear each day.
Thank YOU for sharing your light with all of us!!

Kam, what can I say. You are such an inspiration.
I’ve boiled things down to 3 things I have to do everyday: meditate, write, and walk. It makes the whole day so much better. I’m more centered, loving, courageous, and caring. It kinda makes horn honking impossible
