How Was 2007?
If you're new here, check out the Best of Balanced Life Center and be sure to subscribe to receive the latest updates via email or RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
For most of us, today is the first working day of 2008. This year, I’d like Balanced Life Center to be for you. I want to know what’s on your mind. How are you using the information presented on this site? Is it helpful? Do you have tons of questions? Ask them. I want to answer your questions this year and hear about what’s working and what’s not.
I’ll kick off the conversation.
- What did you learn in 2007?
- What were some of your accomplishments in 2007?
- What do you want to do in 2008?
I’ll come by later on today and share some of my answers.

2007 was a year of great learning for me. Unfortunately, my Intellect and Self are now out of whack.
2008 is time to change that. Less reading about it, more living it. Mouth shut, eyes open. Be mindful and slow down. Santosa meditation: want what I have, don’t want what I don’t have. Mind like water, go with the flow!
We shall see!!

My main lesson for 2007 was compassion for myself and others. 2008 will probably continue more of the same lesson. Only time will tell. I think Compassion was a big lesson for a lot of people as evidenced by all of the online articles written about it starting with your Gratitude articles in November. I think being in an attitude of gratitude helps us to learn to be more compassionate with ourselves as well as with others.

Hi Nneka - Happy 2008! Here’s my response:
* What did you learn in 2007? That asking yourself the right questions is almost as important as answering them with brutal honesty.
* What were some of your accomplishments in 2007? I (finally) joined the blogging community and discovered a lot of cool new blogs during the process!
* What do you want to do in 2008? To attain peace.

The key thing I learned in 2007 “The Value of Self ” …
I learned that I need to be more firm with others with regards to my time. I’m self employed graphic designer and I tend to be a real push over (bad in business right?) Now I try set small daily tasks for myself on what to do and not to do with regards to dealing with my clients. I’ve always been a generous person so I think that has a lot to do with why people always feel that they can take advantage. That doesn’t help me though achieve any of my monetary goals so that has to end.
It also lead to me being stressed out being the fact that I was over extending myself. My priorities had to change. I was not getting value back for all the energy I was putting out.
I didn’t always have to be money I could tell when someone truly appreciated what I was doing for them. I could live with that. It was dealing with people that could not see this I tried to avoid.
I also realized that in order for me to really be happy with myself . I have to forgive those that had wronged me in the past years.. I had to deal with a bad breakup and family members that really hurt me. I tell myself every time I get angry thoughts about the things they did.. and remind myself with “You know you already forgave them whats the point of being angry and holding on to negative feelings”. Thinking that way helped a lot.
I really love this website. I found it in September of last year right at a very pivotal point in my life… and has helped me a lot with its very true to life.. Down to earth thoughts..
I’m thankful.

Patricia, funny you should mention compassion. That’s already turning out to be one of my major themes in 2008. Compassion for myself and others as you mention. I see things very clearly in a positive way, but in so doing I look past any pain that may be present. That can be a great thing to keep focused, but most times it comes across callous. This year, I want to honor my feelings and those of others even as I see beyond the situation.
Thanks for the reminder and Happy New Year!

Hi Al, thanks for stopping by. I’ve found that I don’t ask questions I don’t want the answer too. Often the answer is in the right question. The mere fact that we have the courage to ask it pushes us towards the solution.
Happy New Year,
Nneka

Landis, thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment and for having the courage to share your story with this community.
You will find (or maybe you’ve already found) that you begin to attract more clients that value your work. So much so that you will have to increase the monetary value to become more selective. Know that all your needs and desires are met. Don’t be afraid to step up your game. Your clients and everyone around you will step up to meet you.
Happy New Year!

You still have to decide what makes you happy. Sometimes, you have to change what makes you happy–in order to stay happy.
