Ever turned on the radio to hear a song that describes exactly what you are going through at the moment?

A few weeks ago I went to see the movie Across the Universe. It’s a musical of sorts, scored to 34 Beatles’ songs. It’s a love story set in the 60’s. Woven throughout the movie are hints about that era - the Vietnam war, race riots, psychedelic drugs, and the fight for freedom. It was theatrical and extremely well done.

I’m a post Beatles baby, so I missed the Mania and never quite got it. After the movie, I was totally sucked into that time. I scoured the Internet to find out more about the Beatles, the era, and the meanings of the songs. (Wikipedia is an awesome resource.) It struck me that the Beatles was a group of awesome storytellers. The fact that so many of their songs could be used to create a movie with a strong plot attests to that.

Good music does that. It tells your story.

Today I am grateful for music and musicians. I am especially grateful for my father, an awesome musician, who instilled in me an appreciation for his craft. What are you grateful for?

In Spirit,
Nneka
